The project has created a Network of towns, which supports the cultural heritage valorization and preservation, with major focus on fostering solidarity and volunteering. Of great importance is the active involvement of the local communities and the preservation of the heritage that rural areas have – traditions, lifestyle, music, dance, magical practices, and natural resources. What is more, the initiative aims at contributing to citizens’ understanding of the Union, its history, diversity and shared values.
A focus is put on facilitating and promoting opportunities for societal and intercultural engagement and volunteering. It creates opportunities for citizens to know each other’s culture and traditions and raises the awareness of the importance of the preservation of heritage through volunteering. The interactions, exchange of experience and good practices among citizens have contributed to the development of a sense of European identity, based on common values, history and culture and thus, fostering a sense of ownership of the European Union among its citizens.
